Thumbs down NO TPM Retrofit for '06

Just spoke with my contact at BMW Motorrad Canada and here's the story.

The original TPM system was designed to install on the original stock wheels. Unfortunately, this combination leaked around the valve stem. New wheels were designed. And the '07 bikes with TPM have these "new" wheels. The difference is only discernible inside the rim. Now to make things more complicated, BBS the producer of these wheels for BMW has gone bankrupt and BMW is having a very hard time getting wheels for production bikes, let alone wheels for retrofit TPM systems. So long story short, it just is NOT going to happen.

Anyway that's the story as told to me.

I was really looking forward to this and I'm not happy.

They're going to need rims for all the future bikes so I'm sure BMW will find another company to make the rims. The question will be how long it will take for them to do it.

I have the TPM and bent my front rim on a pot hole the other day. Still rideable, but means I'll be waiting as well to get it repaired if there's no rims available.

Chris,

Bankruptcy doesn't mean out of business. They may still be manufacturing while they
are restructuring. They are also a huge mfg. of auto wheels.

What a pain - and even if the new wheels become readily available, the cost of two new wheels on top of the TPM costs is not going to be funny either.....Grrrr
