Previous Bike - K-series or not?

A discussion in the 1st generation RS/GT forum raised the question about what percentage of 2nd generation GT owners came from a "brick" RS/GT and what percentage didn't come from an RS/GT K-bike, so a quick counting of noses would help.

What is the purpose of your poll?
To find out how many classic GT owners traded for the new GT?
If so, not fair to include RS or LT owners.

The poll doesn't count LT owners. The "classic" RS and GT are more closely related than the new generation GT, R, R Sport and S bikes - after all, the "classic" GT is just an RS with different ergos and more farkles.

I believe your point in the other forum was that new generation GTs were not being purchased by those of us who owned the "classic" sport touring bricks. This poll isn't going to change the world - let's just see how it shakes out.

I'm not sure about such a comparison. This new K isn't anything like my old brick. In fact, they're pretty much generations apart (IMHO). Started with a /5, then graduated to the triple and four cylinder bricks; all to end up with an oil head before this GT. Every one of them was a different bike, each had their own feel and reasons to love them. With the new K, I'd say it's on par with the performance of my old ZRX more than any other BMW I've owned. Now that's a comparison that works for me.

Previous K bike or not

My last bike was an R12RT but I did own an '04 K12GT 'brick' for a year. It was smooth and poweful but I became dissatisfied with its heaviness and found it a bit too clumsy. This bike in comparison feels a lot lighter and is definately more nimble.
It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, this survey reveals.

I agree and don't see where any suggestions were made that the "classic" and "new generation" K12GTs are similar. The question was, how many of us moved from the "classic" brick sport-tourers to the "new generation" K12GT as I did going from a 2003 K12GT to a 2007 K12GT.

The posit in the "classic" RS/GT forum is that the "new generation" GTs aren't being sold to classic brick sport tourer owners - that somehow the new GT has nothing to offer the classic owners.

True...enough upgrades to warrant a model change.

Close....my contention was that more new generation GTs were being purchased by those who owned other models or brands, rather than those already owning classic GT's. The RS is a different model. An RS owner, over a classic GT owner, is more likely to buy a new GT IMO. But yeah, let's see how it shakes out even if it's skewed a bit.
