Sidestand Switch - Is this the way it works?

My other BMW - and I thought this one too - killed the engine when the side stand goes down.

Today at a fuel stop, I put down the stand and the engine kept running. I flipped it up and down several more times and engine kept right on running. So I turned off the key.

Later, after lunch, I went out and tried again and it still kept running while resting on the side stand. I raised it, put it in gear, dropped the stand and then the engine shut off.

So does the safety stand only work in gear? Seems when mine is in Neutral it keeps right on running. I don't know if this was due to some upgrade or the mechanic changed that setting in the brain.

Yours work the same way?

Yes, engine cut out is only if she's in gear. I find this convient as I can warm 'er up on the side stand. Stop and put the ss down and it will kill the motor.

Whew! Thanks.

I was wondering if the thing was getting ready for another visit to Mr. BMW's Garage.
