Valve check???

Talking to the service manager at LoneStar BMW in Austin the other day. He stated that all GT's will have the valves manually checked at 18k because the cam sensor that was supposed to count this stuff off didn't know where it was at.

After the manual check, the counter will be reset and the bike will know what's going on.

Huh?

Valve check

BMW originally said that the BMS-K would moniter and let the mechanic know, via GT-1 when a valve check was in order. Then they said that whatever the bike "said" the valve clearances should be checked at 12K. Now they're simply saying to check the clearances every 18K and to ignore the countdown.

It's what they should have done in the frst place.

Grif,
Am I understanding that to mean that after the initial 18K check, the computer should then be able to "predict" valve adjustments/checks? Or is this gonna be an automatic every 18k thing?

FYI - My bike was connected to a GT-1 today with version 9.1 just loaded. It no longer even has a menu entry for the valve measurement. The tech was predicting they should be manually checked at 30K kms.

I was also given a "free" option to upgrade to the BMS-K flash available with the GT-1 9.1. When connected it gave us a "plan" for an upgrade, so it was expecting to upgrade me. My '06 delivered with 6.1 is PERFECT, so I declined. Why mess with perfection? Afterwards the service manager told me I'd made the right choice. He said upgraded bikes lacked a lot of high-end "snap" as a result of "richening" the low end.

I posted info on this a while back here.

It sounds like your service writer read half of it and went on to the next shiny object!!! Or the boss just interpeted it wrong and "told" them what they needed to know!!!
