From what I have read, the Tom Tom does not allow you to pre-plan routes on a computer and then download them onto the GPS.

This to me would be a major negative when compared to the Garmin since on certain trips I like to take with me specific routes I want to do at my destination (usually some other country). I plan these at home in front of the computer and download them onto the Garmin to take with me.

When I get to the area I want to explore, I just load the specific route I want and follow the little voice in my head.

Planning complicated routes on a small screen and without a keyboard would be a major pain in the ass.

Sounds interesting. What Garmin would you recommend??

I'm sure that others will have their views on what GPS is best, but for a motorcycle you can't go wrong with any of the Streetpilot series from Garmin (2610, 2720 or 2730). The 2720 and 2730 are the latest ones - the difference being that the 2730 has MP3 and XM radio installed as part of it and the 2720 does not.

The 2610 is being replaced by the 27xx models, but it is still a great little device and you can probably get one at a good price right now.

HDF:

Does the 2730 use the same motorcycle wiring kit as the 2610? If so, that wiring is already under my side panels and simply changing the GPS unit will allow me to replace my Roady2 and give me MP3 capability.

Thanks,
David
