Question Where to get detector & H.A.R.D. installed?

Hi,

I just bought a new 2006 K1200S last Saturday and, today, I ordered a Ztechnik handlebar mount, an Escort 8500 X50, and a H.A.R.D. helmet alert system.

I frankly lack the skills to wire everything and set it up snazzy, so. . . I am wondering what kind of place to take the assorted parts to for installation. Is this the province of a specific type of motorcycle speciality shop? A car stereo installer? Some other type of operation?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice offered. I really appreciate your taking the time to give this some thought.

Question H.A.R.D. experience?

Okay, so. . . Marin BMW hasn't done a K1200S radar detector install before, but I am still going take the leap and risk it with them next Friday.

The preceding said, I am genuinely concerned about having them install the H.A.R.D. system in my Shoei X-Eleven helmet. Has anyone here done one of these installs? If so, any advice would be truly appreciated!

Howdy,
The H.A.R.D. receiver that goes into the helmet is pretty easy to install, even for the not-so-handy types.

Basically it's the size of small box of wooden matches... maybe a bit thinner. You hold your helmet up and look inside for a place in the front, usually just the left of center (the center may have a mic indentation, at least on the Arai there is). When you find a place you want to place the velcro and then attach the unit.

The extra cable should be treated gently. I have my cable in the down position which puts the on-off switch toward the center so I can just slide my right index finger in with the helmet on to toggle the switch. Then extra cable can be slipped up behind the cheek pad.

I have the cable and LED set parallel to the visor opening so the LED can be pushed down and be completely inside the opening with the LED just to the left of my nose. This is important because at night the L.E.D. is pretty bright and having it down that far keeps it from interfering with vision, but it is very noticeable. During the day, I pull it up a bit and get it into my peripheral vision. Brighter the day, the higher up I put it.

HTH,
