Question Power for a Bel RX-65

I received a new Beltronics RX-65 as a gift and want to mount on the GT; however, I have a question...

The power is supplied to the unit via a "SmartPlug" which plugs into the cigarette lighter adn terminates at an four conductor RJ-11 plug which connects to the detector itself. The SmartPlug has a mute button and a status LED. My question is does anyone know if the power output to the detector, which seems to be on the center 2 pins of the RJ-11 plug is 12v, or if the SmartPlug steps it down to say 5v?? And, if the other two connections are necessary for proper operation of the detector? I would like to fashion a simple cable with only 12v to the center pins on an RJ-11 plug in order to hard-wire power to bike; but fear that I might damage the unit if it's really expecting lower voltage. The SmartPlug does have a tiny circuit board inside with what appears to be a few resistors and a transistor, in addition to the switch and LED.

Ideas??? Anyone???

OK,

FWIW the center pair of wires DOES provide 12v to the unit- I used an RJ-11 socket on the stock power cable to verify polarity. Works fine without other pins being connected.

FWIW, my Escort 8500 has a similar "smart plug" (RJ-11) and the two inner pins are the power, the outer are to make the "smart plug", ...uhhhh..., "smart".

I bought a direct wire kit on ebay for my rx-65...around 12 bucks I think. Mine's wired into the gps "switched" source.
