Autocom Logic / Garmin 2820/ BT Phone

Hello,

Looking for some help here: I have an Autocom Logic and recently purchased a Garmin 2820 with GXM30 antenna for XM radio. I would like to run this set-up stereo to my Autocom Logic the same way I ran my IPOD classic. Would I just use the 3.5mm jack from the Garmin to the Autocom Logic and will it be stereo? Do I need a special cable to hook directly to the BMW GPS plug? I know there is a plug that includes a MONO jack- what is that for? Can I circumvent that jack and go directly to the 3.5mm jack for stereo sound? Also, I would like to sync my phone to the Garmin to the logic. Is this possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Jeremiah

Cheers,
JB

I'm not sure about the Autocom, but the 3.5mm jack on the side of the 2820 is stereo out. Your XM antenna will plug into the mini USB port on the 2820. All your audio will come out of the audio out jack, including the Garmin voice commands.

I've used a A2DP Bluetooth adapter plugged into the 2820 to pipe the XM and Garmin commands to my Parrot and it worked fine.....until the adpater died. Damn cheap piece of Chinese garbage.

Autocom

Thanks for the reply!

Is it true that if you link your phone via Blue tooth the 2820 you lose stereo sound from the jack? That could be a myth but I read it before on another thread. Does anyone know if you can still use the phone through the GPS through the autocom logic? Man that would be awesome!

I like the Autcom Logic, it really does its job well and has great sound (both with ear plugs or without). Using an FRS radio is easy but requires a PTT when you have more people on the net. If anyone has any question on the Autocom Logic send em!

The thing to remember about the 2820 Bluetooth system is that it's transmit only. In other words, there's no way to get the phone to work without using a hardwired mic. You'll be able to hear the call, but you won't be able to talk to them.

Autocom logic

Why not hardwire your GPS to the Logic unit to get stereo from the GPS/XM and then use a BT module on the Logic for a phone?

Note that if the Logic and the GPS are both bike powered you need an isolated interface.

Will this work?

Run the GPS/XM to the autocom through the 3.5 mm jack. THEN connect the phone via BT to the GPS to see incoming and accept/decline calls with the phone also hooked up via the 2.5mm jack from the phone to the autocom to utilize the microphone and sound muting from the autocom unit. Has anyone tried this? Will a phone in BT mode circumvent the use of the side jack?

Break

Has anyone installed the BT module on the Logic? How well does it work?

Thanks guys!

In progress

I purchased an isolator for about $8 at Radio shack and cleans the sound right up. I wired both through the GPS plug up front on my GSA- so the autocomm and the GPS are running of the same power source/line. I'm running a 3.5mm line from the GPS to the Logic (just like you would for an IPOD). I have stereo sound for everything- so far so good.

I think I figured it out for using bluetooth on the GPS for talking through the autocom. On the GPS it asks if you want to send sound to the phone during calls - i purchased a hands-free adapter for the phone and I plan on running that through the autocom. I will let you know how it works out because the adapter hasn't arrived yet. now where to mount that GXM antenna...
