K100RS Drain Tube?

I have a 91 K100RS. Yesterday after a ride I noticed a piece of small black tubing sticking out on the left side under the seat. Bottom of the tube goes into the rear wheel guard. I am sure this is an overflow tube of some sort, I just can't figure out where the other end is supposed to hook into. Total length of tube is about 10", with a small fitting on the loose end. Any help would be appreciated.

That sounds like the battery breather. In the top moulding of the battery, left hand +ve side if it's the right sort, there may be a hole- the right angle fitting pushes in there and vents off battery gasses down to the rear right of the bike.

ok, thanks. I suppose the vent hole would necessarily have to be on the top of the battery case as opposed to the top side of the case? I looked at the top side with a mirror but could not see a hole in the area where the tube would be able to reach the battery, so presume I will have to do some disassembly to access the top of the battery case.

I am wondering, might some of the batteries NOT have such a vent hole?

Its possible that you do have a sealed aftermarket battery.

The OEM one looks like this with the vent tube on the clutch side of the bike.

I think most batteries are sealed these days, even lead acid.

The oem battery that is on my bike now is unsealed as in it has a vent and the six removable battery cell caps for topping off the water level.

When doing the starter I removed the battery and spilled battery acid on my leg and had to make a quick dash to wash it off before it started to burn. My original K had a sealed gel battery put in it so I wasn't thinking about it spilling out on the oem battery. There are also some tubes from the fuel tank that hang around there if you don't think it is the battery vent tube.

This spring I bought a new lead acid BMW battery , and to my surprise it is vented. Fits the battery tray perfectly (the old Westco was smaller) but boy is it heavy.

thanks for the input. I have confirmed my battery is sealed, so no worries about the vent tube.
