Power socket on an 87 K100RT - where should it be?

I've recently taken delivery of the 1987 K100RT. I'm keen to use the power socket to power my GPS/phone. Can anyone tell me where I ought to be able to find it?

I was looking at a later model K75 Rider's Manual, and on that model it's just forward of the left side cover on top of the coil case, but not on this one.

There is some new wiring in that region - maybe the PO has removed it.

I don't think the power socket was standard equipment in '87. It mounts on top of the coil cover via a bracket on the K100s, which requires drilling two holes. There is a nice kit from BMW to install one..

There's also the option of the dash pad that has a hole for a Powerlet socket:
