87 K100RT missing

I hooked up a timing light to my '87 K100RT and noticed that the knocking (missing) at idle was coupled with the timing light missing a beat. When the engine speed was increase slightly (1800-2200 rpm) the knocking and 'timing light missing a beat' were less evident, but nevertheless still were present.

I moved the timing light's induction pickup to a plug wire on the second coil and observed the same situation.

I am looking for ideas of why the missing is occurring and a recommended path to take to resolving this issue.

Also, when the bike is first started, the bike seems to idle without the missing. My understanding is that the bike is programmed to run rich when cold. Sure enough, when the engine begins to warm up - 60 second after start - the missing starts to reappear.

Try running it in the dark and check for arcing around the plug wires and coils. May need new plug wires.
