1996 K1100RS - Straight 40W

Anybody ever run straight 40W in a Brick engine. Don't think it needs the lighter weight oil here in Georgia during the summer. Temps have been consistantly over 75 degrees all summer. The book has 40W as an option but never heard anyone running 40 W only.

I don't think you would have adequate morning start-up oil pressure/volume with straight 40 weight.
But, it's your engine, do what you wish.

I doubt if you could hurt a brick engine with the wrong weight oil if you tried. 40W seems reasonable for those conditions.

That's all I ever run is 40W Valvoline VR-1. I'm not into 20-50 during the summer. Seems a little too lite for 90* days and running freeway speeds. Never had an issue with the straight weight oil. Since I'm in the colder climate, I don't run during the winter months. If I did, then, and only then, would I consider running multiweight. I ran Aeroshell 60W in my Harley for 30 years. I'd pick it up at the local airport. Designed for aluminum blocks. Typical Harley, would do a quart every 1K...........
