K100 Sluggish First Gear -NOOB

Help Please.

I got a used K100rs , 1992, and off the line it is quite sluggish.

It is new to me and my first k-bike.

No slipping clutch.
No mis-shifting or slipping gears.

Just bogs down getting her going from a stop....

Where to look to resolve...or is this 'normal' for this bike?

Its not normal, the bike should take off like a bat out of hell if you gun it.

So basically the bike is hesitating in first gear only? If you jam on the throttle in other gears it runs normally?

Normally a clogged fuel filter can cause hesitation when you jump on it because it only allows a limited amount of fuel to pass through and the engine wants more. I'm not sure of the history of the bike, but replacing the fuel filter is never a bad idea if you don't know when it was done last.

Perhaps the injectors are clogged? You can add some cleaner into the fuel. Also push the computer connector under the seat into its home, mine would come loose and kill the acceleration.

Check the spark plug leads?

Remove the left hand cover, remove coil cover and test between each with a multi.

Also, they should be firmly in place. I had similar problems with a loose fitting on cyl 1, so it's worth a shot!

Thanks Gents!


Here's what I did based on your direciton.

1. Changed plugs and checked connections
2. Changed gear and tranny oil. (I added that)
3. Got Chevron with Techron filled up today.
4. Computer connector checked and seated properly.

The problem remains, and, it happens in other gears, not just 1st, up to almost 2800rmp. Beyond that everything gets smooth.


Tomorrow
1. Bought gas filter. That gets changed tomorrow.
2. Got injector cleaner additive, gets added tomorrow.

PLeae let me know if you think of anything else.

Vacuum lines to the fuel presssure regulator? You may have to take off the airbox for that.
