K100 progressive springs

Hi Guys. Bike is a 1989 K100RS. Currently doing a full spline lube, all fluids changed, headbearing repacking, and new shocks. Looking to lower the bike a bit, purchased a Ikon 1" lower rear shock and Progressive front springs. I have the preload figured out for the springs, then noticed in the instuctions about shortening the spacers to lower the front end. Does anyone have experience lowering this way, and how much can be achieved. I will be sliding the fork tubes into the triple tree.

ps: Thanks for the imput from everyone who posted details on all of the above work.
