Oil level indicator

Sorry, first newbie post.

What oil is recommended for a K100LT (87) please?

Also, does the bike need to be on the centre stand to give a reading with the oil level indicator window?

Thanks
Phil

Lol an oil thread- really Phil! Any high milage bike, I'm guessing on an '87 it is, just a name brand semi or full synthetic 5/40 or 10/40 will do just fine. The Brick 4 in your bike is basically just a 4 cyl car engine layed on its side. I've been using Shell Rotella T synthetic 5/40 in my last 4 Beemers, Bricks and Slant 4's and never had an issue.

Yes, and on level ground, too, for consistency.

Right from the Hayes repair manual .
Warm it up, switch off, wait 15 mins, level ground, on CS. BTW, I had an '87 K100 LT. Loved that bike, wish i had keep it. But then I'd need a warehouse to house them all

Don't overfill.

Ideally you want a mid-window oil level reading. That is, dead center.
