Tie-down For Motorcycles

Searching the Net..we sometimes find some useful 'gadgets' (from 'blogs.motorbiker')



Here's an idea that worth it's weight in gold (and it doesn't weigh much).

The problem; when transporting your motorcycle on a trailer, to tie it down effectively so that it doesn't go wondering by itself, you need to compress the forks when tying the motorcycle down.

Two systems are available, one for tyres with studs (off road) and one for slicks (road motorcycles).

The are currently sold in Australia and the USA. The version of studded tyres cost US$ 70, while the one for slick tyres costs US$ 85.

On their website, you'll find plenty of photos, and several videos showing you the loading of motorcycles using this system.

No European distributors as off yet, but they're working on it....

I bought one, It cost $150 US including shipping. Great piece of gear. When I combine this with the Wheel Chuck, the bike doesn't move.

Curious...what are these made out of (the part that holds over the tire)? At $150 bucks...seems like something that would be worth trying to fabricate...great idea either way.

tie downs

I agree there, may experiment with some coated cable and crimp connectors. No fancy buckles but a lot cheaper. good idea!

If it's got curves ride it.

From the picture, the sport version has some type of sheet or material that actually goes over the wheel, held down by the cables. Rubber or maybe metal? Maybe the inside of an old tire might do the trick to grab the wheel for a roll your own solution? Thoughts? Where did you pick up the coated cable?

You probably COULD make it cheaper, if you were a machinist and had the equipment. The strap that holds the tire is about 5" wide, it's (I think) aluminum, nicely machined and about 5mm thick. The entire hold-down is first class, and extremely well made. Yes, it's a lot more than a ratchet strap, but you don't have to preload the shocks or the suspension, and I don't worry about rupturing a seal. It's only the tire that's held fast. When the Tyre-Down is secured, nothing moves. If someone can come along with a competitive product at a cheaper price, I'd love it. By the way, included in the $150 was a $50 shipping charge (from Australia). If you could find the thing from a local retailer I'm guessing you'd pay closer to (or maybe even less than) $100.

Tyre Down adn KS

I bought it and it works very well but the exhaust (can) has to be removed because it is ntoo close to the tire. Takes me about 3 minutes now.

Do you have the stock exhaust? I have the Remus and it doesn't interfere.
