Touring Boot Reports

Any road reports on good leather touring boots?

Price is not the overriding concern but has to be within reason. My first pair were Hein Gericke Maddox which were extremely comfortable and durable until the soles wore out. Next I got a pair of Roadgear XKJ with similar results but with light cracking in the leather. Currently I'm wearing a pair of Forma Street Evo which are much stiffer but have vinyl in the flex areas of the front and back which is starting to separate from the stitching. Formas also zip on the outside which can be awkward compared to inside zippers.

I've been looking at models from Gaerne, Alpinestars, Sidi, BMW and others. Any road reports and recommendations? I want leather, preferably inside zippers.

Ive been wearing Sidi Canyon Goretex for the last 5 years, I wear Trousers over Boots. They must have done getting on for 150,000 miles with lots of walking too and have never leaked, ive had them resoled once and to be fair are getting close to end of life, but wouldnt hesistate getting another pair.

I like them as they have a proper heel and sole which I can walk in for good distances.

I have been thinking about getting some Custom made Altbergs for my next boots as they have been designed as a Walking/Motorcycle Boot.

Altberg say they will deliver to any country, but the custom fitting may be an issue, 6000 mile round trip a bit excessive for boots I suppose, still worth a look, see below.

PS: I have been to the Altberg factory in Yorkshire, like going back a couple of hundred years

PPS; Just thought, although Ive never owned a pair, the German made Daytonas are undoubtably the best Motorcycle Boots bar non, Ive tried a pair on and the feeling is glovelike, only reason I didnt get them is the walking issue, If you ride then change when you get where youre going, the Daytonas would be top choice

For long rides and anticipate rain-lots of rain and cold-3 year old Sidi On Road! 3 years, and still look like new. 1000 mile trip -2 days of non-stop rain-i'm talking a frog strangler-not a weep or drop of moisture, and amazingly comfortable. Inside zipper w flaps/velcro over.
