Dunlap RoadSmarts-

Have just over 6k on the RoadSmarts. Two weeks ago went for a 2200mile ride up to Vancouver BC. Mucho rain and they handled very well. This afternoon, after coming home, I walked around the bike before putting her to bed and noticed something unusual on the front tire. There is about a 1 inch patch along the center of the tread that looks-well, different from the rest of the tread. Still plenty of tread left. Ran my finger and there is a definate difference in the center. I ran my finger around the tread-side to side and you can feel this center patch is harder material. Then looked and examined the rear and same thing but, the patch is twice as big. Guess it really is a dual compound tire. Haven't noticed any adverse handling. Vleey Interesting!

Yeah, Im just finishing of a RoadSmart rear and Im going to throw the front as well.
The rear has worn well and evenly and the dual compound on it is quite evident. It has been sticky and on the small number of occasions when I have been in the wet it always felt composed.
The compound variation on the front is less visible but the sides of the front tyre have worn far quicker than the centre giving it quite an aggressive profile.
Turning into a corner it feels quite normal and then all of a sudden it rolls/falls over and your nearly on your side. The rear has done about 11,000ks and the front about 6,000.
The Dunlops were well priced but I have today just ordered a pair of the new Pirelli's to give them a try.
I didnt think much of the wanky Angel/Demon marketing concept but I hope the 2 year period in technology development over the Avons/Michelins/Dunlops/Bridgies will give them an edge.

When these r done-I've used most of the premium brands, will go to the Road Pilot 2's. I'm liking the multi-compound tires.

It was a toss up for me. Ive run the PR2s and was very impressed with them.
I took a nail in the rear on the PR2 when it was fairly low miles and ran with a plug for a while and at the time couldnt buy another one for love nor money.
My tyre guy was able to do the PR2s this time for only a few bucks more than the Pirelli but Im curious to check out this expanding contact patch technology over dual compound.
I like new tyres so if I dont like em its always an opportunity for a new set
