Metzeler Z8

Hi all,

Be warned to check that you purchase the "C" type Metzeler Z8 for your K1200GT. I had no idea there was a choice and the local tyre supplier fitted a pair of the non "C". They were near impossible to track straight. They agreed to replace at no charge the rear with a "C" but said the front would be ok. Sure there was a marked improvement in handling but not 100% so after complaining again it was discovered they didn't order any fronts in "C". To get me out of trouble and mobile again I bought a Bridgestone BT023 from a competitor and although not ideal it is acceptable. Our local BMW agent has taken the importer to task and has demanded regular supply as the Z8 "C" is recommended by BMW Germany.
Cheers and good luck,
Alex

In the UK neither BMW or Metzler list the Z8 as an approved fitment, only the Z6 with a C Front and a K rear. As I was fairly dissapointed with the Z6's that came on the bike from new, when I had to change I went with the Bridgestone BT023 GT's, pretty good tyre but wearing fastish, think the Michelin PR3 will be my next tryout.

I had a pair of Z8's installed back in the fall, a few months ago. I'll have to check if they are 'C' or not, don't remember. Can't say I've had any trouble with them though. Didn't notice any change in tracking or bad steering. Tires grip real nice. I'm pretty happy with them.

Hopefully you have the correct tire fitted. I always ride with the wife on the back, panniers and top box so this extra weight may have contributed to the vague handling and tracking issues. Look for a "C" within a circle on the wall and should be fine. BTW, we rode Route 66 last September (HD Heritage Softail Classic) with Eagle Rider - we both fell in love with Chicago - you live in a beautiful city.
Regards,
Alex
