Hello All,

I Am New To The Bmw Bikes. This Past Friday I Bought A Buddies Of Mine K1200r With 346 Miles(2006).i Own Two Other Bikes As Well. The First A 2007 Honda Vfr 800 Interceptor,my Second One Of Them, And A 1992 Harley-davidson.maybe I'm Crazy But When Shifting The Lower Gears First To Second, second To Third It Make One Hell Of A Clunking Noise.my Question,is That Normal Bmw Behavior? Other Than That I Love The Bike.thanks For Any Help.

yep... definitely normal. my girlfriend described it after her first ride as sounding like "a bowling ball dropped into a metal garbage can from 20 feet."

There's another thread in the GT forum about the same thing.

It's fine.

Neutral to first. Try fully engaing the clutch, holding it in for a second or two longer, then engaging first.

From first and up. Roll off throttle, quick pull of the clutch about 1/2 way to offload in transmission, snick up a gear with a nice firm foot tug, release the clutch. The idea is to not let the input shaft slow too much before selecting the next gear and firmly (but not excessively) move the shift lever to fully engage the next gear's dogs. Too slow of a shift OR to fast a shift will make it noisier and possibly not engage fully.
