Speedometer faceplate - K12R

Hi,

My K12R's speedometer reads in km/h, and this needs to change to mph, as I moved from Europe to the UK.

Expensive option (GBP500) : Import new mph instrument unit from Germany.

Cheap option (GBP35) : Manufacture a new speedo faceplate in mph, and have it installed. Only niggle is that as far as I am aware, the speedo unit is sealed and CAN NOT be opened.

It would really be appreciated if you could offer me advice on how to open the speedo, to fit a new faceplate.

Thanks for taking the time.

why MUST it be changes? is it due to local regulations?

you could use clear vinyl and print out key MPH marks at say... 25/50/75/100... and put that on top of the gauge.

If you are still following this thread, I've got a spedometer unit with 4000+miles reading on it that has mph. I could look into shipping costs overseas if you are interested. Price would be closer to the latter than the former.

Thanks guys for replying.

Been a while since I've visited. My speedo problem is almost sorted due to a wel connected friend.

Apparently the numbering on the speedo must be "dominant in the local numbering", according to my local registration office. According to her I can not just put on some stickers, because my speedo is still kph.

Love the red tape. Infuriating.
