Replacing My Horn - Help!

I'm riding an "07" K12GT. I'm replacing my stock horn with a Stebel Magnum. It's about twice the size of the stock horn. Mounted in the same location, the horn rubs on the brake line. Not good! I found another spot on the left side underneath the cruise control unit. But, I'm having a hard time trying to figure how to mount it. I believe I can use the existing horn relay and just plug it in and play? Any suggestions how to convert the Stebel to hook up to the BMW plug? I'm open to any comments or suggestions pro or con to my adventure!

Thanks,
Jeff

You can also purchase a Stebel Horn kit from Excelcyclewerkes.com.

Comes with the brackets etc for mounting it. The compressor and horn are separated for space saving purposes. You don't get anything that you couldn't make yourself but it was convenient.

BTW, I love the Stebel Horn. Very loud. Much better than the stock horn which sounds like a Roadrunner who has eaten Decon.

Good luck

What about the high current connections to the battery? The first paragraph in "Blast Your Way to Visibility" in the February BMWON mag. makes it sound a little risky!

I haven't read that article, but how can it be risky if the starter motor takes the most current for longer?

Of course you have to wire it up properly with wires, relays and fuses of the correct rating. Stebel only design and make the horns, it's for the buyer to fit them correctly.

I bought the Nautilus a couple of years ago and it has worked loud and fine. I mounted mine in the space above the shift lever - tricky to do but saves space up front. Next step would be one of those Amtrak horns, but the bike's a bit small.

Easiest mount location on the 07 and newer GT, is the shelf infront of the ABS unit under the leftside tupperware. There is a torx bolt that you can hang the horn and compressor off
with a 4" piece of 1/2" flat steel with 2 holes drilled in it.
Mount the relay next to the horn on shelf, run the trigger wire to old horn wire on opposite
side, follow SemperFi's instructions on DIY and you too can sound like you know what your talkin about just like me.

For a step by step, go to K12/1300GT thread here, find my same question,
Stebel horn installation, and look for the link from SemperFI, Luis has awesome
DIY pics for tupperware removal, horn installs etc.

Apologies as I should have spotted you have the 07 KGT and I fitted mine to a KRS.

Perhaps you don't have that space around the heat shield deflector/tranni-clutch housing that I have. On my KRS it just took the Nautilus horn with 1/4" shaved off the edge of the plastic trumpet. I made a small bracket that uses one of the clutch housing bolts, tricky because there is no leeway on space. The horn faces downwards and stays dry. Still VERY loud.
