low idle rpm

I bought an '03 K1200GT with 41,000 mi. The idle speed is about 600 rpm when warmed up. It does not stall. The rpm fluctuates when the throttle is open slightly in neutral. I do not notice surging when riding. I noticed that service records showed that the ECU was replaced under warranty in '04 for what appeared to be a similar problem. My '02 K1200RS does not do this and never has. Anybody have any ideas as to what the problem is or the solution.

Your idle seems low, it should be about 1100 rpm. although I always think that's a bit high, but you can't easily change what the software in the ECU is supposed to do. Only the ECU can set it so if it isn't right, then something is putting the Efi out of range where the ECU can no longer set it. There are quite a few variables so the slow and maybe expensive way is to change this and that. But the smart move is to see what the computer diagnostics say first. Some things might be:

O2 sensor, air leaks on throttle bodies, engine breather, throttle position sensor out of adjustment, even timing.

You might be thinking it's an ECU issue, but I'd look into the low idle first.

The bike had been sitting up for 10 months. Running through a tank of fuel with Tectron added did the trick.
