faulty fuel sensor

I bought an '03 K1200GT that apparently has a faulty fuel sensor. The gage seems to work but the low fuel light comes on when I know I have between 2 and 3 gallons of fuel. Adding a little fuel made the light go out. The Clymer manual tells how to replace the fuel sensor but adds that the new sensor must be calibrated with the MoDiTeC unit then does not tell how to do this. What is the procedure? I wonder if my unit can be recalibrated since it does work but not at the correct fuel level.

Probably nothing wrong with the sensor, just in need of re-calibration. My '04 needed this done after coming out from a service. An error was made when the tech was retrieving data and the low fuel setting was disrupted..

Yes it can be re-calibrated to turn on at 1gal. (or whatever level you want) left in the tank.
It is a dealer only fix.
