Question Gear ratio question on 1991 k100rs

I've just finished bringing a 91 K100rs back to life after a six year entombment in the dark recesses of a garage. I've done all the necessary repairs, I think, and took it today for a long awaited test ride. Everything seems to work and feel really nice but I'm puzzled by one thing. At sixty miles per hour the engine is turning an astonishing four thousand rpms in fifth gear, or nearly so. It takes me back to being seventeen years old and trying to get my 125 enduro up to highway speed. New to BMWs, I was anticipating a much more relaxed cruising speed. Does anyone know if this is normal, or has this bike been modified in some way in the past? Maybe it was ordered with special gearing?
