Question Brake disc thickness before needing replacement on '06 K1200S

I just purchased a '06 K1200S with 15,000 mi or 24,000km. The 20,000 inspection said there were 3.8 mm left on front & rear brake disc. I asked the previous owner what that meant and he claimed not to know. At what thickness of the brake discs should I have them
replaced so I don't do damage to the rotors and I can stop safely? Thank-you for your help.
