Dang it! First Drop!

I took a neighbor for a ride today on my GT. He had never been on a bike before. When we stopped for gas, he did some sort of Hop-along-Cassidy dismount which caught me by surprise and the bike leaned over. Just enough to scratch the luggage case. I thought I had seen posts here on some kind of molding that could be attached to the cases to prevent this. Any help appreciated.

Don't you hate that? Actually, you should count yourself lucky. My first drop was done while turning a corner onto an off-camber street. I was only at a walking pace, but it cost me $1100.

Anyway - yes, there are molding panels you can buy for the system cases, but so far as I know they only come in black and I don't know how they would look on a GT's painted cases. On my RS cases, which have the rough surfaced black exterior, they look more or less like they belong. I looked for quite a while for a pic for you, and here's the best I could do: http://www.i-bmw.com/gallery/showpho...to=326&cat=502

There are actually two pieces per side. The piece along the the leading edge which wraps around to the side you can see fairly easily in the pic. There is another piece which goes all the way across the side (bottom portion), but you can't see it very well in the pic... in fact, I am still debating over whether it's even there.

Thanks for the response. I will check into them. My bike is dark blue and Black will look ok.

Thanks again!

If you find them, post a link here as I also have the blue GT. I always got a lot of dings and scratches on my RS system cases.....

That nearly happened to me with my wife riding pillion first time. Now it's always mount from the right on level ground so she doesn't burn her legs on the muffler, only when I say and both feet are firmly planted. Usually I have the side stand lowered as well! Short of drop down outriggers I can't think of anything else. She's now pretty good and learned to stay far back on the seat, instead of working forwards to the tank.

At stops I've told her not to wriggle about and turn round as well.
