turning off handlebar heaters

Ive just become the proud owner of a 1986 K100RT,,(with an RS fairing)....dont know much about these bikes but have always loved the look of them....got a simple question, that no doubt makes me look like a goose, but I'll ask anyway.

Can the handlebar heaters be turned off? If so how/where is the switch?

Ive had a look but couldnt find anything terribly obvious...although the previous owner reckons they have never been turned on! All I know is that they are QUITE warm...not great given that I live in Broome where it is regularly (always) 30 deg Celcius or more...By the way, how will the bike handle te hot conditios? Any thing to look out for?

Cheers

The '86 KRT did not come stock with heated hand grips. Someone added them and the switch(wherever it might be).

The bike should handle the heat very well(I am in 90-110 So. Cal.).
I would replace the radiator cap as a maintainance part though.
The only problem I had with heat on a '85KRT is the way it is ducted through the fairing.
