Clutch R&R

I'm in the midst of R&R'g the clutch on my '97 K12RS so I can replace the infamous leaking rear main seal. I bought the BMW special tool (11 2 800) for holding the clutch housing while the locking nut is removed/installed and found that it wouldn't fit. As you can see from the attached photos, I ended up having to hog out the right side hole in the tool sufficiently that it was possible to get the second bolt into place. Has anyone else encountered this? A hell of a price to pay (over $60 CDN) for a tool that doesn't work, I'd say. In the end I got it to do the job though - old seal is out and the new seal's in.

On to reassembly!

Posts: 1,511 thinking that the bolt pattern on the housing varies from hole to hole....did you try and rotate the tool to different spots to see if any 2 would line up?...

Yup. Tried every possible combination. In the end, I matched the housing orientation shown in the Clymer manual and still had to modify the tool to fit.
