I smell gasoline.....?

Today is the second day I am smelling gasoline, when I lean over toward the front of the bike I smell it more.

Sounds dangerous but I am unable to find anything wrong. What are some possibilities and what can I do to find out the issue before I find myself having to head out to the dealer?

If anyone has any ideas Id appreciate it.

Maybe the tank is venting? Did you just fill it up?

Possibly venting but the gt crowd had several cracked quick disconnects or fuel line bulkheads. I'd pull the tank and check.

Nice to see you still around JCW. I filled it up a few days earlier and as I remember, I over filled it pulling the nozzle up and continuing to fill since I didnt want to walk back to grab my change. Although I did not notice any spills or over flow, after 3 days it is still stinking heavy... that cant be normal, right? It's a good thing the labor day weekend is here, I will surely pull the tank out and have a look. I'll take some photos and upload if anything is wrong.

I noticed leak one day after work and by the time I got home gas was dripping down left side of bike. I called dealer and took it right over. Long story short they said ethanol in gas was eating away plastic/nylon connections in fuel pump which was replaced. I saved receipts upon dealer recommendation and filed complaint with national transportation and safety board in hope that this will become BMW recall. Apparently several other BMW owners have had similar complaints. I now run ethanol free gas. Dealer recommended Startron if using ethanol gas.

I am guessing the same thing happened to me. I pulled the tank out over the weekend and found a cracked plastic fuel line. Bought a new fuel line for $18 at the dealer and replaced it. All fine now.

Total cost: $21
Time to fix the issue: 1 hour

Very dangerous issue here, if you smell gasoline, take your bike to the dealer immediately as the gas can build up and bad things may happen.

I also noticed a significant increase in power and torque after the fix.

I had no idea ethanol can eat up plastic. I am unaware of where I can buy ethanol free gas as all gas stations in the USA now seem to have up to 10% ethanol. I am not okay with paying $10 a gallon for racing fuel.

Ethanol free gas

Google ethanol free gas and you should be able to find out local stations that carry it. We have at least 2 in York County and 1 in Lancaster County PA. One of the dealers is a local grocery store, independent gas dealer not associated with major company and I believe other is a green company called Amerigas but not 100% sure if this is the name. Hope this helps.

That was a recall item. They replaced it with a metal quick disconnect. You should ask the dealer for the part cost.
