54k Service question

Well, I am in the middle of doing the 54k service on my R.

When I went to put the new spark plugs in it, i noticed a big change in the plugs. The old ones were side firing "normal" plugs. The new one are traditional plugs but Iridium tipped. (see photo)

Anyone know if any changes were made or if the service intervals have changed?

The new iridium plug looks to be the correct type and should be NGK KR9CI. The old plug looks like the Bosch XR7LDC fitted to the K1200RS/GT/LT but appears to have a different code. Could be that the old plugs were incorrect.
