Seat Recommendations From The Long Inseamed Riders

Over the course of motorcycle ownership I've always struggled with a good knee to footpeg distance. I am NOT a fan of lowering the pegs even though my peg dragging days are behind me know.

My 2007 K1200GT came with the lower of the OEM seats. I currently have it in the upper position but still wish I was a bit taller in the saddle. So I'm looking for recommendations from those of you who are also in the 33/34 inch inseam range for what you've done.

I don't need to move back in the seat for arm comfort as my height is all in my legs. Your comments are appreciated.

Airhawk

Maybe a gel or Airhawk pad for the seat?
I have an Airhawk2 and have been playing with the inflation levels and can't find anything satisfactory. I used the Airhawk2 on my R1150R which had a Sargent seat. Worked well on the R but the stock seat profile on this K for some reason doesn't want to play well with the Airhawk2. It seems like my butt is wandering all over the place and I've had the thing fully inflated like I had it on m R and almost no air but it is/was absolutely horrible on this K.

The Airhawk works for some folks, but not everyone. And if it's inflated properly, it doesn't really give you any more height.

Some riders use beads, which help, but again, only adds a little height.

Some riders use sheepskin.

And some use Gel pads.

But honestly, none of those really solves the problem entirely. And since they all sit on top of your seat, how you cinch them down is kinda critical. Hate to see something sliding around at speed . . .

The only true solution is to have your seat rebuilt by a custom saddle maker.

There are lots of decent options, and a few poor ones.

My money, and my butt, says just go with Russell Day Long and be done with it.

They will make you a custom saddle based on your weight, inseam, and riding style, and it will be exactly what you need. Custom saddled tend to add some height just by the way they're made, but they can easily build it up a little higher if you need.

Just tell them exactly what you want, send in some pics of you sitting on the bike, and they'll take care of the rest.

You might try some of the cheaper options first, but they won't really solve your problem, and then you'll be looking at a Russell anyway. So just go there first and save yourself a lot of time, money, and hassle :)

Im in the 33/34 inseam club too and also found my Airhawk doesnt work on this bike, previously used on an oilhead boxer for 6-700 mile days no problem. My body has adjusted to the K as time and mileage have gone on to some degree, but I have got the standard seat in the high position so Im up a bit more than you to start with. The biggest problem with the K pegs for me is not so mutch the height, but they are a bit too far forward causing a real pinch in the hips, trouser selection seems to help me with that, looser fitting being the way to go.

I'm with Ken on this... get a Russell Day Long.
I did last 135k on a a standard LT seat for 10 years, but when I got the 2008 GT, I have gone RDL. At 6'7" and 36" inseam, it does the job.

OK, so here's what I'm trying before dropping close enough to $1000 for a seat that it'd make a whore blush.

I've been rear ended in a couple of accidents over the years that have caused me to have whiplash and therefore an f'ed up neck. My pillow has become very important for me so I can get a decent night's sleep.

Quite awhile back I tried a buckwheat hull pillow (believe me, I tried everything) and it was the one that worked the best for me. Now as with any pillow you need to get rid of them and get a new one. Well after leaving one behind in a hotel I started to keep the old ones for road trips.

So this morning I decided to take the air bladder out of my Airhawk2 and fill the cover to the appropriate level with the buckwheat hulls from an old pillow. A bit of a messy task but it is now ready for testing later today. Time and miles will tell.
