long time no see guys, hope things are going well. That's one of the problems with these K's, you don't always break down constantly to create a community like a vintage british :rotf:

but I have noticed for some time now that my rear brake doesn't return properly after applying it. It doesn't stick terribly, but when I get off and feel the rotor it is always hot, and I don't want to create a welded pad some day...

I've pulled the pads out and cleaned the body and pads. The pins that hold the pads are old, rusted and pitted, but I've filed them clean again with a very fine file and put ever so slight a bit of grease rubbed on them (I know better than to grease a squeaking brake pad, thank you :wtf: )

Is there any mod to add a return spring maybe, or any tricks you can think of that might help? My local BMW dealer is crap with this sort of thing, if you don't have a 2014 bike you might as well not talk to them.

Thanks a ton!!

Check that you got a small amount of play beteween the pedal and the master,
if not...back off the adjuster screw at the pedal a little.
If the play is present...it's probably the calipper pistons that start to get sticky,
time to overhaul the calipper.

Them calipers....you do not want to split them, there is a good chance of a leak after. I know the O-ring/bolts to split may come with the rebuild kit. Don't use them, leave well enough alone and push the pistons out one by one with compressed air.

Could also be corrosion in the rear MC, that was my problem back then and also caused the brakes to stick. You can pull out the boot just to see if the piston retracts. If the snap ring is corroded, doesn't look good for the rest of the internals.

Expensive them Brembo brake parts....I'll try to remember where they are available in the UK for a lot less. Maybe saved in my favorites that link......that would need sorting. :teeth

If you want to go fancy with the "pins" they are available in Stainless at Motobins. I should get some of those, even new ones will corrode shortly. :)

Did some digging this morning but can't find my other link for Brembo brake parts. However Motorworks in the UK seems to have all you'd need for system rebuilds. That includes if necessary the rear caliper pistons and them sure aren't available in the USAs. Good prices if I compare to the American parts fiches. :teeth

Doublecheck the piston sizes etc, mostly if working on the MC there was 2 sizes used back then, 12mm and 13mm and they interchange as a whole unit so could have been "interchanged" back then....old bikes you never know.Size should be embossed on the MC. :)

Splitting...

I disagree about splitting them.

I did all three on my LT and had no problems with leaks. Get the OEM rebuild kit. It has everything you need. Just make sure things are surgically clean before putting them back together and use some clean brake fluid to lube the pistons before pushing them in.

You might consider also replacing the brake line as, they can get rubber flakes on the inside that cause them to act like one way valves.

I never pulled the MC on mine as there was no problem so it's up to you. If rebuilding the caliper doesn't solve the problem, that's the next step in addition to replacing the line.
