Hi, I just noticed gas leaking out of the gas cap of my K1200GT. I searched the forum but could not find any thread that sounded related.

When it is hot in my garage, gasoline seems to accumulate in the ring of the gas cap mount (the part you see when the cap is open) until it overflows outward from there. The tank is full but not overly so, about half an inch below the 'hole'.

Additional info: I just installed a Cortech tank ring type tank bag mount a few days ago. To do that, I had to remove all six gas cap mounting screws at the same time. I got them all back in w/o problems, but is there anything I might have lost or blocked while doing that?

Thanks for your help! :(

Open up the cap-there is a small hole -think left side rim. It is breather/vent for gas fumes. If it is some where blocked then you get what you got :). Try using a thin wire (like bailing wire) from the top and snake it out. If you have access to a good compresser-stick an appropiate size nozzel and blow it out. This is where you will find out if the tube is blocked down the line. Then follow it down to where the black tube exits on right side behind your right foot-zip tied along with 2 other vent tubes. Possibly the zip tie got too tight and squeezed the vent tubes closed. The vent tube may have been kinked somewhere up the line. If any of this is there the expanding gas in the tank will force itself out the gas cover. Easy fix.
