K1200s

I bought my 07 K1200S in January with 16K on it. I am not an expert but did my homework before I purchased. If 1200, buy an 07 or 08 as most of the bugs were worked out by then. I have had none of the previous models issues with mine. The 1300 came out in 09 and had more of the issues worked out such as a better transmission. What I found out is that as stated in a different post, try not to get a garage queen with only 6K as it has not been ridden and may have dry seal issues and corroded internals. Maintenance history is the most important thing when shopping. Find out where the maintenance was done so you can verify that it was in fact done. unless you can ride all the different models, pick one and you wouldn't really miss the other features of other years. I spent 8K on my 07 with 16K, great maintenance records and in mint condition. It blows people's minds when I say "no, it isn't new, it is an 07".

This is my first BMW and I could not be happier although at my age, a GT would be more pleasant on longer rides, but I just suck it up and have fun. Again, no expert, but I hope this gives you something.

Heretic113 Thanks for the 2Ę Richard, I've been considering the 07-8 1200 or the 09 1300, mainly for prices, and the drain plug final drive, because I'm a huge fan of maintaining my own bike.

which one

I have a 2007 k1200r sport and would recommend it, what a great bike. Just got back from a quick 80 mile ride this morning and I wasn't disappointed for leaving my HP2 at home. Plus the buy in for something like this is not very much. A great value in a motorcycling. I am sure you will like whatever you pick. Richard.

Changes by model year

Hello everyone, thanks to a healthy chunk of change burning a hole in my pocket, my wife has agreed to a new bike. I've done the research, and for how/where/how much I ride, a k1?00s is what it's going to be. Now the question is which model year is the best bang for the buck? As nice as a brand new HP model would be, I'm sure I'll be fine with a bike with some miles at half the price or less. I know that the second half of the 1200s got a drain plug for the final, and that the 1300 got lighter duolever components at some point, plus since early 1300s had low speed fueling issues. Any more pro/con changes through the years?
