Hi, name is Dan Fellows. I live in Mechanicsville VA. I've checked valve shims (Buckets/Tappets) on the bike and found 6 out of spec. I can swap two but need 4 new or used shims.

I need 2 - 2.75MM and 2 - 2.80MM.

Is there any place cheaper than the dealer to get these Shims?

Thanks Dan

Update: I found the 4 shims (new) from Motorworks in the UK and at a savings of $45.00 over US total!

1) Some BMW dealers (not many) will offer used Buckets that they keep from previous shop. In some cases they say they never do this (reuse), but I am aware some do... really not sure they would offer them for sale at parts dept.

2) For NEW Buckets, the best price I have found is from from MotorWorks in UK. They are a reliable aftermarket BMW parts shop that also sells OEM parts (mainly the wear / fast moving stuff). Their shipping rates are quite acceptable - by the time you buy 4 of these + shipping, it will have cost you about $US 26 each (including conversion of UK pound to $US). So roughly 25% less than dealer price in USA.
See this page for all bucket sizes of K1200RS/LT: https://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=5&NU=15&M=45&Ct=BA&SbCt=BA_15_45_BA_40

3) Another option is to shop here from members like me that I kept a few of these Buckets over the years (from previous jobs or as spare). Currently I still have 3 NEW ones and 1 USED in what you need (one of the 2.80 would be used but very good) Would sell the 3 NEW ones for $US 25 each AND the USED for $15 (shipping included in price if you buy 4 - so a total of $US 90). I can only take PAYPAL - be aware the shipping from my place in CANADA may take 8 business days as FEDEX or UPS are just too expensive from here for a $90 order. Contact me by private mail on this forum if you want to go ahead: https://www.k-bikes.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=3658

4) In rare cases these Buckets can be found used on EBAY, however in most case the "parts breakers" selling these parted bike will generally offer only the whole cylinder head as an assembly - you really do not know what sizes you will get. New bike from factory are often put together with higher range of values (I have seen many 290, 295, 300). Since you need to go down with wear / mileage, a used engine will have a range of values depending on mileage / wear between 290 and 270 (has been my experience after 8 such jobs on many K1200).
