My bike used to set off the "Laser" on my Escort...

|Erik||Regards the problem I was having, now that I remember, it was false laser alerts.. The fix from Valentine beside relocating the unit was to shut off the laser detection..|

I have a radar detector, in a tank bag, on my GT. My wife had a Valentine detector on the R1200RT that she just traded, and we've ridden thousands of miles with one ahead of the other, and short periods of side by side, and are usually only a few feet apart when we start them. We've NEVER had a false indication from each others bike. We do get a false sometimes from cheap detectors from cars.
My first guess is that your companion's bike is sending low voltage to his detector, which will cause the detector to alert much more quickly.
In any case, I'm sure that it's not a design problem with our GT's, as my detector works great, and so does my wife's when she's riding near me.

|grifscoots||So, did Valentine have any idea's on how to fix it?|

|Erik||It's being caused by either the alternator the electronic ignition, or both. I once had a V1 mounted on a R1100RT that when passing through a certain rpm range it would go off.. Called Valentine and they were pretty sure it was the ignition.|

I have an '04 KGT with a V1. When I ride with my buddy on a tricked out LT with a K40 radar detector, my V1 screams bloody murder. I usually have to turn it off.
Is the problem with my V1? I don't think I would dare say the K40 is a "cheap" radar detector like the Bel and Uniden mentioned above.

Radar detector and GPS on the GT
I have a V1 mounted in under the front cowling and have a Gadget guy GPS mount with a Garmin 378. Both function normally.
Any infrared or radio transmitters (CB) around?
