One of the original 100 bikes made available for the international press review.
Although the international launch of the 1200 GS had been later in the year, a 100 bikes were made available to the international Press to be ridden for review purpose,
during Jan/Feb 2004.
After the press rode the bikes, they were refurbished by BMW and sold to the public in South Africa. Customer' names went on waiting lists, and I got mine in May 2004. We could choose out of the 3 launch colors: Yellow, Red or Blue.

Interior
Traveling along Botswana border in Kalahari desert, I heard a strange noise when going slow. On inspection found pivot bearing coming loose. This resulted in all the right hand side spokes being chafed to within 50% of their thickness.
We took it apart and used Vaseline ( only available lubricant), to repair it. Repairs lasted until back in Johannesburg where dealer fixed permanently.
