Okay, here's the scenario......clutch gasket and coupling cap and oil pump sprocket replaced at 82k miles. All has been fine and the bike had 97k on it and I was due to get an oil change and final drive change along with new tires before a 800 mile trip last weekend. 97K and I had the work done, left town and all was fine, for the whole 4 days we were on the road. Got back home, parked the bike on Sunday evening. Now the bike has 98K and on Friday I hopped on for a short little ride. Right after startup, shifted into 1st and the bike sort of "lurched" forward. I got out on the highway and felt that shifting was harder than normal and to get into neutral was like a dance.......1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st.....you get the idea, and that followed by a decrease in performance when twisting the throttle hard. Now, the bike has had Castrol 10-40 in it since the beginning, and when the last oil change was done, the guys used Motul 10-40. Question is, has anyone experienced this before, after an oil change, just like light switch? It was fine one day, then after the oil change it was working this way. Keep in mind that after it was changed we went on 800 mile trip to Nashville in stop and go traffic and it was Hot! Dang it was hot, and I don't know if that would have had some adverse effect, but please , share some experiences and knowledge, thanks in advance.

When you say a decrease in performance when twisting the throttle, what do you mean? Is it simply not responding as quickly- (smooth but sluggish)? bucking? Do you get the proper throttle response when it's in neutral? What does it shift like if you don't use the clutch? Yes, I know I said don't use the clutch..but is there a difference?

I mean that usually, let's say for example, 4th gear about 4K rpm nets me 50 mph, well it seems that n 4th gear my rpm's are higher than normal to produce the same speed. The rpm's don't shoot up and speed decreases like I have experienced with other manual transmissions. The bike still accelerates, it just doesn't pull hard like it should. It does feel sluggish. I haven't checked the throttle response in neutral but I will in the morning. And I haven't checked shifting when not using the clutch, but I will do that also.

Wel, a couple months later now, I replaced the clutch plates with a Barnett pack. The originals were worn almost into on the inside and no fibers on the outside plate. Now I now the clutch is okay, but it still seems like a lack of power when I twist the throttle. It sort of "stumbles" , then starts going. Any ideas out there?

Throttle hesitation

Okay guys, from doing research on the web and this forum it seems as though it may be the O2 sensor?. Here's the scenario......traveling along at lets say 40mph in 4th gear, when I twist the throttle, there is a slight delay (1-2 sec) and then it starts moving on. I have been reading posts about changing it with the Bosch has helped and others say it hasn't. Most of the posts are a few years old...,does anyone have any insight that might help me? Also, side note,....every once in a while from a high idle if I let off the throttle, it will backfire a small amount, not a loud pop, just a little .....plop...plop

Sorry I didn't get back to you after your reply further up but I just returned from a ride to Canada, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
First I would do a throttle reset and see if that cures it or helps. If not, you may want to consider having the bike reflashed at a dealer. Just a couple of initial thoughts.
