Need some help from some experts here. I had the final drive completely removed from my 2008 K1200S for service tonight. While I was handling the unit, suspended by bungee cord from the bike, a plastic spacer / washer fell out on the ground. It measures 36mmX24mmX3mm and I can't figure out where it goes. Could this be the drive shaft dampening washer? It's hard, black plastic.

I've been wracking my brain for an hour trying to figure it out. Pic added for clarification.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Two options. Sorry not having gone there yet I don't recognize the part directly.

One: get yourself the factory DVD or "rep-rom" as it's called, and become familiar with it. An official copy costs about $100, bootleg much less.

Two: go online to the parts fiche at realoem.com and enter your VIN number, then drill down to the assembly in question. This one's free; the parts diagrams are available also at the websites of most major dealers, but realoem was the first (IIRC) and has been my go-to for many years.

Both methods are useful, the second a little quicker and will impart peripheral knowledge which may be useful.

Its the Damping Washer. It goes in between the drive shaft and the differential. Its common for it to fall out during service. As long as its not cracked or damaged put it back in.

Much appreciated guys.

I had looked at the parts diagrams online but it can be tough to identify a single plastic washer. With Doug's confirmation I think I'm all set.

This is my first BMW but i have tons of motorcycle mechanical experience. This forum has been super helpful as I learn to speak BMW and discover the uh.... nuances of German engineering.

Thanks guys, the schematic is helpful but hard to make out a specific washer. Got it back together now and all wrapped up.
