I finally pulled the trigger on a GPS. After much debate I chose the 2720 because I figured I would never use all the bells and whistles on the 2820 or Zumo and thought I could save a few dollars. I would really like to mount the unit in the same location at the BMW OE Navigator (as I think it makes for the most clean setup), but am confused as to making it all come together.

I bought this for the unit:

I found the attached picture of the BMW hardware for mounting the Navigator. Where exactly is the BMW mount secured to the bike? I'm at a loss because I've never actually seen the system in-the-flesh. Does anyone know what BMW parts I'll need? Has anyone done this or have any pics? Thanks!

Now all you need are the BMW base plate and bracket. You may find that they are not cheap, as I've heard that in the States they rape you for these two pieces of plastic, you'll need to check with your dealer. These two links below take you to a site that gives you the part numbers.

I've attached a pdf file that shows what it looks like on my old K1200S.

By the way, if you find that the original BMW parts are just too pricey, don't panic. The Garmin brace you bought will be needed for virtually any other set up you decide to make - so you haven't wasted your money.

I believe that it attaches to the removable plate on the tank just behind the handlebars.

Thank you! That was very helpful.

They sure do rape you on these parts. $76 for the base plate and $108 for the bracket through Chicago BMW

Does the unit mounted like this offer good visibility? I'm 6'2" and based on your pics it seems like I would be straining to get a good view. Thanks again

It is low, but on a Sport Bike it's not bad. I use it in that position and it works well while keeping the handlebars uncluttered.
Note: top speed is off the LT...or do I protest too much:eek:

More good info. Billy, How tall are you? Do you have any opinion on the badge mount or the Ztechnic mount?

Thanks.

I'm 6'4".

I'm not familiar with the Ztechnic mount. Zetechnic, in general, makes very good products. I would also check out Touratech. They make high quality, high utility products.
