Has anyone had their Garmin freeze up on them? Riding home from the DRG my gps freezed for about two or three minutes and then it seemed fine. This happened more than once and I'm not sure whats happening.
What ever screen I have on stays on on matter what button I push. I can shut it down and re start it or wait and it un freezes. It's like it looses the sat connection and doesn't know what to do next. If I'm listening to an mp3 the song stops until the unit starts back up again.
I don't know why I'm posting, I really don't know what I'm talking about. Ignore my comments and you'll be better off.
I looked at the owner's manual online, and there's no mention of your problem at all.
Could it be that road vibrations are causing your hard drive to malfunction? I seem to remember some other posts early on about how a GPS with a hard drive might not be good with some bikes and/or roads because of vibration.
Chuck is right, don't listen to him. The 2820 doesn't have a hard drive, it uses flash memory which vibrations shouldn't affect.
I have a 2820 (well, actually it's in the shop right now). Mine did something similar and also lost (erased, extiguished, made disappear...) the pre-programmed route I was riding and basically reset all of the settings back to new during a ride.
It was a bitch because I was on some major backroads in the mountains (some of the roads did not appear on the mapping unit - unfortunately Spain cartography is still not 100% at Garmin) and without a proper paper map. It took me an additional 100 km. before being able to find my way home.
I don't know what the problem is, but I have read others have had some problems with the 2820. Mine went into the shop because some days after the aforementioned event my bluetooth just quit working. It would not activate or de-activate.
Finally! Someone who knows what he's talking about! Geez, it took long enough! Just goes to show... when you shoot your mouth off about something you know nothing about, it looks like... you're shooting your mouth off about something you know nothing about...
