In the short time I've been reading these fora I'm struck by how many people seem to have just bought new bikes. I just bought one, that guy got his last week, this guy knows that there are 10 blue ones left, etc.. Is it always like this?

What I'm actually wondering is whether this "k-bikes galore" phenomenon is the result of the current great deal with 0.9% financing and the first 5 payments free? Myself, I was looking for a used bike, but when I came across a salesman who had the wits to explain the deal I folded like a house of cards. Do these bikes always sell like popcorn or is it the promotion at work?

K-bikes

If it hadn't been for the 0.9% finance, 5 free payments, $2000 off msrp, I wouldn't have bought one. That's less than $430 total finance charge compared to over $3000 at about 7%.

Turned out to be a great riding bike too.

I was actually looking at (lusting for) a new K1200S, but after some soul searching decided I valued my driver's license too much. An '04 KRS with less than 1,500 miles was sitting in the corner of show room for 2/3 the cost of the K1200S. It was mine 2 days later.

I took a GT for a spin (and a new RT before that) just for fun, I wasn't thinking seriously of buying it. I didn't ride it far, about 40 miles, mostly on the highway around 60-80 mph. What impressed me was the way the bike could pile on the miles without tiring me out because of the great wind protection and ergonomics. I was also impressed with the looks, shaft drive, heated grips and hard luggage.

When I brought it back I casually asked what I could get for my 93 VFR. They gave me a good price and knocked over $3000 off the price of the GT. I decided the next day to buy the bike.

After putting almost 5000 miles on it I've discovered it's a bit of a handful around town and at slower speeds but really comes into it's own when it can stretch it's legs. It's perfectly suited to comfortable fast sport-touring. Now, I just have to find the time to take it on a few trips! Did take one trip though the Rockies in July.

I've only seen one other in town. I think there aren't many due to the relatively high price (lists at $25,000 in Canada). BMW would no doubt sell alot more if it was priced the same as say a FJR ($19,000). Most bikes I see coming off the showroom floor are $15K or less. 25 grand is alot for a bike when you're probably paying a mortgage, making car payments raising a family etc.
