One cold, winter day, I overused my heated grips (on LOW) on a not fully charged battery, and due to the stalling problem with fuel flow, my bike died in the middle lane, in stopped traffic about 4 miles from work. I have AAA, and they picked my frozen butt up off the side of the road and took me home with my bike on the flatbed.................... and I immediately had the same issues you are seeing after I went and bought a new battery from a non BMW shop. (I DID buy the high end and expensive INTERSTATE battery, not the cheapo midrange ones.)

I scoured the internet, found a few videos of people yanking off ABS, I found all kinds of complaints and fixes and voodoo spells and a BMW recall or two... So I scheduled an appointment at the dealership and had them look it over, thinking they would try talking me into buying a new BMW battery... I had NOTHING to go on at all. I let them keep the bike because it was so intermittent.

Turns out when the contracted AAA hauler picked me up off the side of the road, they ran the tie down strap through and over a loop that crushed the speedo/ABS/sensor cable...... ALWAYS WATCH THEM LOAD YOUR BIKE!!!!!!!!! <lesson learned>

The mechanic showed me the cable and where it runs along the body and he showed me that it was kinked up and there was a disconnect and a tear in the protection on the wiring...

He told me it should be fine for now, but eventually it was going to fail again right at that spot.

so I bought a cable to replace it with... it's been 7 months knock on wood.

I carry a set of soft straps just for that purpose. Loop them around the front forks for tying down the bike and you can use the rear peg mounts for the tying off the rear.
