Those of you that have used Google Maps may/or may not know that you can drag/drop your route with dynamic re-calculation. Very powerful...want to avoid Dallas, just drag the route around it.

And while not meant to be overly critical, I find Mapsource neanderthal and painful in designing a route. I am aware there are some other mapping programs (don't know their names) that can output a GDB file? What can you recommend and why?

I think you can do the same with Garmin maps, if you are interested. I would have to go look it up, but if you click on a route, with the right tool selected, you can just drag the route anywhere you want it, and it will automatically recalculate.

The best I've been able to do with the Garmin software is go into route mode and then click to add waypoints one at a time. It will auto-route to each waypoint, which is helpful, but you pretty much have to create each waypoint in order, and if you don't like the route you have to undo the last point and do it again.

Google, on the other hand, lets you insert a waypoint anywhere on the route just by clicking and dragging one of the route lines. It's really nice.

If only there was an easy way to export the google route to a format that the Garmin software understood, or otherwise sync the route to the GPS. That'd be super useful.

Please inform us how you did it..
See DonGold's response just above. Works like a charm! Once again, in Windows, if in DOUBT, right-click!
