Any interesting rides in Northern Florida or Georgia?

I may be relocating to Jacksonville, Florida. Are there any interesting rides from northern Florida into Georgia? I'm used to riding the Blue Ridge Parkway most weekends from Roanoke, Virginia. Am I going to be in withdraw from the lack of mountain roads with endless sweepers and curves?

In a word: Yes!
Steve and Richard,

Not so quick on the "yes" disappointment. Granted, the South Georgia and Florida roads do not come close to comparing with the BRP, Cherohala, Dragon, etc... There are some decent sweeper roads with slight elevation changes Northwest, North and Northeast of Tallahassee. I am afraid that Duval County / Jacksonville does not have much to offer in decent riding roads. Come west a couple of hours and Pete and I can show you some "great roads" for Florida and Southwest Georgia.

I'm sure you'll be going towards Daytona sometimes. When you do, take the loop from Flagler. It's exit 91C or 92. You'll find it. It's more tourisy than curvy, but it beats the hell outta I-95.

Another great overnite trip would be to Cedar Key to eat at the Captain's Table. At least you can day trip the Winter Rally.

So, now that I've completely avoided your question, I'll just go quietly ..... ;)
I live and work (half the time) in Jacksonville and these guys are on the money - there are very few roads around JAX that could even be called sweepers but the BMWNEF group can help you find them. They are a good group of people and there are some roads toward the middle of the state not too far from JAX that are fun.

Gee - you'll be quite the oddity - the only one with no chicken strip.

There are a couple of others from JAX on this site - John, jpalaramo and piratejohn, let us know when you are in town - maybe we can grab a beer.

Oh yeah... the J&J heir used to have a house on the beach not far from my place - you might want to check out where all the money has been going that they saved on not giving out bonuses.
Rides in Jacksonville

Thanks for the replies. It looks like I'll have to balance the riding in Florida and Georgia with the ability to ride 12 months of the year and scuba dive as well.

Hey now....you need to edit that to "South Georgia". North Georgia has some great roads! Head up this way and let me know ahead of time and I will give you the tour!

Something to Think about

Hi Richard.

I am up in Atlanta, and any time you like to ride the North GA Mountains let me know and we hook up. I happen to have family in Tallahassee(FL) and Columbus, GA so I know the roads in between there pretty good. There is a trip I took once that although not curvy it was a very nice South GA Farm Land ride, and you can do it and loop around to 75 Interstate back to JAX.

Out of Tallahassee take 27 North to Colquitt (GA), from there hit 45 to Arlington/Morgan. In Morgan hit 41 which will put you through (Weston, Buena Vista, Geneva), in Geneva you can hit 96 which will take you all the way back to Interstate 75. 96 is now a 4 lane all the way but still has some pretty decent things to see. Peach Plantations and nuts.

Now heading south of Tallahasse on 319 hitting 98 and following the coast to Appalachicola, Saint Vincent sound, Indian Lagoon up to Port St Joe and Mexico Beach is nice, while in Mexico Beach hit Tucan's to eat great spot.

Just a couple of rides I've done and don't regret it.

Ditto the mention of the BMWNEF, maybe you were at the rally last weekend??
We meet the 1st Sunday of the month at the Golden Corral on San Jose (FL13) (Jacksonville) about 1 mi or so south of I10.
We have more than a couple of riders who REALLY know the roads in the area, and one of them leads a ride after the meeting.
Ever been to the Shack by the Track in So Georgia?
Or Mi Toro in MacClenny?

One word "ozello"
It's on the west coast between Cedar Key & Tampa. It's Florida'a version of the Dragon. Just watch out for the sand.
