The Motorcycles segment was also able to achieve growth due to its new models: The sales volume for the full year rose by 5.6% to 97,474 (2004: 92,266) units, with the R 1200 GS, R 1200 RT and K 1200 S contributing especially to the sales performance.........

You've gotta love the spin BMW puts on these numbers. Here's a little history.

BMW Motorcycle Units sold in the US in previous years:

2003: 15,300
2004: 13,316
2005: 12,803

This is much lower than the 30,000 units by 2005 BMW's dealer development unit was spouting 5 years ago. I think that explains more about disappearing dealerships than any single item. Then again, BMW's poor marketing of the Motorcycle Division in the US has a lot to do with it as well.
