Agree, sounds dodgy to me...looking at the photos again, if I had a clutch explode at high rpm through the housing, I would expect the engine's oil volume to follow the path of least resistance and closely follow the clutch parts through the newly created "viewing window" in the clutch cover. The bike would be covered in engine oil from front to back after such an event...
I propose that the casing was smacked from the outside by a hammer or similar a few times and hard enough to shatter the alloy casing and break the clutch basket off, all in the name of possibly trying to get an insurance claim through BMW.
Smacks of insurance fraud to me and potentially trying to claim money back from stolen property.
All of the above are just my views and opinions, I'm not blaming anyone.
