Blue Ridge Parkway Rally
Peaks of Otter Lodge, Blue Ridge Pkwy mp 86, Virginia
May 4th thru 7th, 2006 (Thur – Sun)

Call
Peaks of Otter Lodge for reservations.
1.540.586.1081 • 1.800.542.5927 • Fax 1.540.586.4420
Note: Specify one bed or two. !! Last year some found out that a few KING size beds are available. Some may have been secretly thrilled at this news. Rumor has it that Bubba and Chester had a restless night, however. How ‘bout them Cowboys?. :)

Blue Ridge Parkway info and maps can be found
here and here

Don’t know what BRPR is? It is us. All of these IDs and passwords transformed into real people, riding and laughing for three days. Rain or shine. If you don’t have a good time,.sell the bike.

Alternate Lodging (info only) :
Super 8 – Bedford
Days Inn – Bedford

See you in April. After the
pre-THCR and THCR, of course.

Mike and I will be going to Ashville, NC for another rally - same days; is Peaks of Otter too far from Ashville that we wouldn't be able to catch a little of both events? Would be great to meet some folks from this board and the other board I go on all on one trip! Planning on the SSR too, will be watching for the dates.
Asheville is roughly Parkway milepost 386ish. Peaks is 86, so 300 miles of Parkway is a long day up and back. Most of the BRPR attendees go play in beautiful (and empty) West Virginia, but you might find some that want to ride south and meet at Fancy Gap or Tuggles Gap for lunch.

What rally in Asheville?

Naaa..that's on the southern end(NC)..Peaks of Otter is on the northern end(Va)..about 500 miles diff..
It's not the miles, it's the time that causes the problems. :) If you can find a motel that won't mind individual bookings, set it up and throw up a seperate post. That's how all these other Rallies started. I can't do another September Rally due to work commitments
, but anyone else can.

I learned today that the Triumph RAT group is also planing to use Peaks of Otter the same weekend we are. If you are planning on attending you had better call now for a room.
We have ALL rooms until 30 days prior to May 4th, then any remaining room are open to the public. We will triumph. :D

.........What's the weather in this area like in May?
Usually mild, some thunderstorms, sometimes hot, but occasionally downright cold. ;)

Virginia, West Virginia ... We go to a wonderful little BMW rally in Boyer, WV (Cass Rally) almost every year, and it has been mild to cold and wet, but never hot. Usually cold. One especially cold year a patron across the street at the gas station asked the attendant when it got warm (thiis was Memorial Weekend). The attendant replies, "About the first of August". When asked when winter arrived, he replied, "About the end of August".

As for the Asheville area, it could be anything. "The most famous May snow in this area was part of a late season ......... vigorous upper level low pressure system stalled over the western Carolinas for 3 days from the 5th to the 8th dropping 60 inches of snow at Mt. Pisgah."

Weather .... or not ....

Yeah we got caught in that 70 miles away from the Peaks. It was an interesting
ride back.:D
You were IN that? They called for high winds, so we parked under the walkway between the units. It got so bad we considered grabbing our jacket liners. ;)

Weather is a crap shoot anytime for the mountains, whether it's Virginia, West Virginia, NC, or Georgia. It will probably rain somewhere that weekend. Georgia Mountain is a great riding area, and we have lots of friends there. This year the dates coflict, and waiting until after Mother's Day placed BRPR the weekend before Memorial Weekend. So we are where we are when we are. Might as well throw out a tenative food plan - Friday noon in Marlinton WV on the river. Saturday noon in Marlinton WV on the river. (After all, Pikes is closed, so .... )

So we'll see most of you at BRPR in April,
:tim :susan

In order to convert ....

Lenny said:
Dudes,
I'm in.
Just made reservations.
I have a question though.
A friend of mine is riding down also.
He just bought a CBR600RR.
No, he isn't a teenager, but brand new to touring.
Do you all allow "non-BMW"bikes to participate?
Oh, and what should I recommend to him for pain during the trip? : )
We'll be coming from NJ.
Can't wait to meet all of you.
Lenny
.... we need convertees. Anyone's welcome. BTW, lunch is 120 miles away.
