Chaffed through plug wires?

My '03 started surging, spitting, and generally acting like something even the dog wouldn't drag home. The verdict from the dealer, the plug wires rubbed against each other and either began to cross-fire or something equally ugly. Can't be good. But how often does this happen? The bike has 44K on the clock.

RBE, I had the tech that replaced the clutch in mine change the plugs and some other pm while he had the Tupperware off and he said that the plug wires were showing signs of wear and I should plan to replace next plug change. There is 31,000 on it. Did you replace with OEM or aftermarket?

The new wires are BMW parts. What I'm mildly annoyed about is that there seems to be nothing to hold the wires away from each other. Replacing wires every 30-40K has no appeal for me. [/two thumbs down]
